Act 2 will be performed in November of this year. Hello, there! I'm Preston Ochsenhirt, and I recently completed my 14-year undergraduate experience at Utah Valley University (an endeavor that has taken almost as many years off my life). My, my, what a journey this was. Ideally, it wouldn't take a decade and a half to complete your undergrad, even if you do get multiple degrees, but I never was much of a conventional person. There are some benefits to additional education, though. The number of opportunities UVU gave me has left me truly blessed. The world looks quite a bit different today than when I began my first college course in 2011. I underwent a similar metamorphosis through my extensively diverse array of subject study. From history, I learned that people aren’t all that different from each other. From philosophy, I learned that you could learn something from just about anyone. And from biology, I learned that I hate biology (I bet that’s the most shocking detail yet). The widest net cast in my metaphorical knowledge ocean was, however, the arts (that is, I’m assuming, why you’re here). Beginning in the ballroom department, I found that while I love dancing, that alone would not capture all my interests in this realm. Soon, choral groups caught my eye, and I declared music as my major. After sharing my course load with dance, film, and music for six years, I finally was able to complete my first undergraduate degree. This was not enough, however. I needed more, and UVU was eager to give it to me. I auditioned for the musical theater program, originally thinking I would not get in. To my delighted surprise, I did! And that’s where I was until here in 2025. Again, an extended stay at any university is not advised (also not advised is getting married two weeks before the end of your junior year, but that's another story for another time), but I became a man influenced by more perspectives than I can count. The good and the bad have all laid their bricks into my mind palace, and I will forever be blessed by all the efforts of my colleagues and the faculty of UVU for it. Here's to the next 14 years, and I hope you'll be another person I get to learn from on this wonderful adventure of life.
